I was a bit skeptical to purchase a mattress online, but a Queen Memory foam for $500 and marked down from over a thousand seemed like a deal to me. I received the mattress from a local shipping company 2 days after submitting my purchase with standard shipping so that was nice. When I opened the box I immediately was hit with the SEVERE chemical odor. I read about this odor in other reviews so was not surprised. The mattress puffed up to it's full size within 15 minutes. I am not 100% satisfied with this purchase, and here is why:

I read about the strong chemical odor of the mattress which apparently dissipates after a few days. I have owned the mattress for a little over 24 hours now and last night had to sleep on the living room floor because the smell is SO STRONG. It's not that it smells horrible but it gave me a huge headache to be in the same room as it. I didn't exactly picture my first night with a new mattress on the living room floor eating pills and icing my head. I have had windows open and fans running for over 24 hours now, and I still cannot stand to be in the same room as the mattress. My husband, on the other hand, slept on the mattress last night and said it was very comfortable, but did mention he "felt sick" this morning. So, if you are someone that is sensitive to smells, gets headaches, etc this mattress is NOT FOR YOU.

Also, the mattress came with no paperwork in the box whatsoever. I wanted to put a encasement on the mattress but had no idea what the care instructions were since the box and packaging were empty. I had to write the company just to find out their return policy and care instructions.

Those are my big issues, but other than that everything is tip top. I have only tested the mattress briefly at this point and it feels very firm. I'm not sure I would recommend this mattress to anyone else because at this point I can't go near it.

This product was advertised to be comparable to a leading memory foam mattress. Initially I was pleased with the mattress. After a couple months, the foam began to sink more and more, apparently losing memory, until it was difficult to sleep, let alone get in and out of the bed without assistance. I have slept on a memory foam mattress that was of known quality and this mattress doesn't compare. The price may be enticing, but when it comes down to it, the product does not deliver. As soon as I started waking with back pain on a regular basis, I decided to hold the seller to the 20-year product warranty and ask for a replacement. I was asked to provide proof in the form of a picture that their product was defective. Once I did, I didn't hear from the seller again. After a month, I contacted the seller, and was told that I would have to return the mattress at my expense first (with a freight company of their choice) before a replacement could be issued. The cost of returning the mattress was more than half the cost of the original mattress, and I would be without a bed until a replacement could be sent. This is completely unacceptable. I would urge you to seriously consider that you get what you pay for. This product is not worthy of continual support. As a physician and a consumer, I would never recommend this product to anyone seeking comfort or serious customer service.

We just got this mattress from Dynasty (they have 120 day return policy vs Sleep Shop's 90 day). Tried different mattresses at a store, and loved the Tempurpedic with adjustable foundation, but couldn't afford it. Thought we'd try this mattress instead ($529) with the Leggett&Platt S-Cape foundation ($1200). Mattress seller was nice on the phone when we called about the toxic fumes. We were wondering why some reviews said the mattress smelled for hours, and others said for months. They said the glue used to attach the memory foam to the "under foam" isn't applied consistently, so some smell longer than others while the glue dries. The memory foam itself also "off gasses", so they suggested 2 to 20 days in a spare room (if available) to let it de-fume before sleeping on it, if we were sensitive to odors (which I am). BTW: Reviews I read indicate that the Tempurpedic has the same issue.

We do have a spare room, but we still didn't want the toxic smell permeating the room or our home. So I devised my own simple "de-fumer" with basic items that were lying around the house. Here's what I've done:

I took a 12' piece of flexible 1.5" tubing and fed it thru the zipper opening of our mattress cover (not the included cover, but shouldn't make any difference), pushing the tube to the opposite end of the mattress. I fed the other end of the tube out the spare room window (putting a stick in the window for security, and taped cardboard over the rest of the window-opening to keep bugs out). Outside, I fed the tube into a 1.5" hole I cut into the underside of a cardboard box (box propped up off the ground). Also on the box underside, I cut a small hole for an extension cord to feed thru, and cut an 8" round exhaust hole to match an 8.5" round clip-on fan we have (removed the clip), and mounted the fan inside the box to blow down and out (most any small fan of any shape would probably do). I duct-taped over all the openings (except the 8" exhaust hole), and duct-taped the top of the box closed (remembering to first switch on the fan -- low speed); then slipped a garbage bag over the top and sides of the box for weather-proofing. I plugged in the extension cord, and voila!

So now....air slowly enters the mattress cover zipper opening (open 8-10"), travels around and across the foam, into the tube at the other end, and exhausts out thru the bottom of the box outside. There's been NO odor in the room at all. We'll leave it like this for a couple of weeks, occasionally stepping on the mattress to encourage the "off gassing". If all goes well, we'll unzip the cover in a couple of weeks and the mattress will be done with its fuming.

We'll let you know how it goes. Then we'll let you know how we like sleeping on the mattress.
